CHRIS CLOUT DESIGN
From the minimalist u-shaped design to the spectacular off-form concrete and high-level interiors, Savoy is a true architectural masterpiece – boasting rich materiality, strong form and strategic design. This epic home, like most properties positioned on the Gold Coast’s many waterways, is governed by the local council’s town planning scheme. As such, the development must be designed to uphold the site’s flood storage holding capacity for a 1 in 100 year flood event. To ensure compliance with this requirement, this project was designed with suspended concrete ground floor to allow flood water ingress and egress beneath the slab. Particular importance was the minimalist off-form concrete nature of this design. To achieve this, all structural elements were kept to minimum dimensions, whilst still complying with the relevant standards to achieve a truly stunning result.
